- The menstrual cup (MCup) is a non-absorbent reusable barrier cup that collects menstrual blood. It comes in 2 sizes and is made from medically approved, 100% pure silicone (which means no impurities like colour) in an FDA certified factory. Local design and manufacture ensures that safety and design standards are monitored and controlled by the owner.
- The storage bag provided with each Mcup is made by a community project based in Ottery, Western Cape.
- Eco-friendly: One Mcup is the equivalent of 1200 pads. Cost-effective and environmentally friendly alternative to pads and tampons. Reusable so no need for regularly purchasing, using and disposing of traditional pads/tampons. Does not contain latex. Nothing to throw away, or to run out of.
- Hygienic & Reliable: Easy to clean as the lining is totally smooth and the tab is flat. Odourless and entirely invisible with no strings. Provides more reliable protection as it opens to form a seal that resists leakage. Non porous and non-absorbent.
- Effective: Holds up to three times more fluid than the average tampon or pad. Can be used before first sexual intercourse and in conjunction with an IUD or contraceptive diaphragm. Safe to use before the onset of menstruation so ensures maximum preparation.
- Comfortable & Convenient: Available in 2 sizes. Comfortable as it is made from soft flexible silicone rubber. Ideal for an active lifestyle eg: running, gym, yoga, swimming etc. and can be worn overnight. Needs to be changed less frequently than even the highest absorbency tampons. Mpower Menstrual Cups was born out of Glenda Tutt's personal experience of being a financially constrained single mum who could not afford pads. She used an imported menstrual cup which was given to her by a friend. It worked. She was amazed. It changed her life on all levels from financially to menstrual hygiene management, as well as being an environmentally friendly choice. Glenda feels that she had to make this product accessible to South African women at an affordable price, locally made and with women's wellbeing at the heart of it all. She believes that everyone has the right to dignity. She is passionate about ensuring a quality product for all women – not low cost Mcups for low income women. She has a vision to improve menstrual health management in low income settings and is committed to educating all women so that each Mcup becomes an informed lifestyle choice.
